Peppermint Bark

Are you trying to find the perfect gift for that hard-to-buy-for person on your list? This year, how about giving the gift of sweetness? You can do just that by whipping up homemade chocolate and peppermint bark. Check out this easy recipe so you can make some gifts.

Ingredients for Chocolate Bark

This recipe is full of mouthwatering ingredients. You’ll need to gather:

  • Six large candy canes, crushed
  • 8 ounces of dark or milk chocolate melts or chips
  • 6 ounces of white chocolate melts or chips
  • Five drops of peppermint essential oil

Melt and Spread the Dark or Milk Chocolate

This holiday treat is surprisingly easy to make. To begin, you’ll need to take out a large, rimmed baking sheet and line it with parchment paper. Then add the milk or dark chocolate to a microwave-safe bowl. Pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds, stir it, and heat it for another 30 seconds. Continue to heat and stir the mixture until it’s melted. This normally takes two to three cycles in the microwave.

Then remove the mixture from the microwave and spread it on the parchment paper. Use a spatula to spread it in an even layer across the baking sheet. Then place the pan in the refrigerator for 10 minutes so the melted chocolate can harden.

Melt and Spread the White Chocolate

Next, you’ll need to melt the white chocolate, just as you did with the dark or milk chocolate. Then stir the peppermint essential oil into the mixture. Next, take the pan out of the refrigerator and use your spatula to spread the white chocolate in a thin layer over the milk or dark chocolate.

Add the Candy Canes

Next, sprinkle your crushed candy canes over the top of the white chocolate. Do this right away, before the white chocolate has time to harden. It’ll be cold from the cool milk or dark chocolate, so this won’t take very long at all.

Break it Into Tasty Treats

While the white chocolate will firm up quickly, you can speed it up even more by placing the pan in the refrigerator for a few minutes. Then take it out and break the candy up into large pieces.

After breaking it into pieces, put the candy in a covered container. Make sure you keep it away from the heat, so it won’t melt before reaching the recipient.

This holiday candy is absolutely divine, making it the perfect gift. Also, since it’s easy to make, you can whip up several batches for the people on your gift list.
