Let’s face it: just because summer may officially end, doesn’t mean the summer heat does too. That’s why it’s always a great idea to make some homemade lemonade to keep cool while awaiting cooler fall temperatures. Strawberry Rhubarb Lemonade
Ingredients: 3 chopped stalks of rhubarb, 2 cups of sugar, 4 cups of water, 1 pound of pureed strawberries, and 1 cup lemon juice. Place the rhubarb, sugar, and water in a pot and boil for five minutes. Remove from heat and add in strawberries. Let it sit for 45 minutes then strain the mixture. Put it in the refrigerator for one hour then stir in lemon juice and serve over ice.
Ingredients: ½ cup water, ½ cup white sugar, and ¾ cup frozen or fresh raspberries. Combine water and sugar in a saucepan and bring to a boil until sugar dissolves. Add frozen or fresh raspberries and return to boil. Remove from heat and mash mixture. Drain the mixture and discard solids then refrigerate syrup until cooled. In a pitcher, muddle mint and fresh raspberries. Add lemon juice, cooled syrup, and sparkling water. Add ice and serve with lemon slices, mint leaves, and raspberries.
Ingredients: 4 sprigs fresh lavender, 1.5 cup granulated sugar, 1 cup fresh lemon juice, ¼ cup fresh lime juice, and 2 quarts water. Bring water and sugar to boil in a saucepan until sugar is dissolved. Add lavender, lemon juice, and lime juice. Cool mixture, strain, and then chill. Serve over ice with lemon slices and lavender sprigs.
